Why online learning?

Online learning is a wonderful educational opportunity  that allows students to take courses outside of the normal offerings, recover credits, access remediation, and have a sense of control over their learning environment.

Your Class

Students are successful when they are in an engaging class that captures their interests.  Online learning allows students to manage their learning environment and take responsibility for their progress. My role as educator is to motivate, encourage and coach. I also provide technology support and advocacy on my students’ behalf. It is critical that a student has a sense of connectivity with his or her online course whether it is enrichment or remediation. The variety of technology tools and online providers makes this a very prescriptive process that when done well results in success for every student regardless of ability.

Your Style

Every student has a unique learning style and the challenge is to identify that style and align it with the correct course. Online learning is dynamic in the fact that courses and providers are in a constant state of identifying students’ needs and adapting to those needs. Courses continually evolve to provide a rich and authentic digital-age learning experience. When a student comes to our online learning program, the counselor and I work very closely with the student to ensure a “proper” fit between learning style and online course to insure student success.

Your Pace

Many of today’s students require learning environments that can be manageable and flexible to their personal style of learning and life schedule. My students report that they like online learning because they can review or spend more time on a topic that is difficult and they are not pressured to keep up with the rest of the class. Their motivation is greater because they don’t have to risk embarrassment and let the entire class know that they are struggling. Online learning also provides students the opportunity to work ahead or to take advanced classes to enhance their educational development plan.
